FYI ya'll, adding half a teaspoon of sifted corn starch to the sugar before beating it into the egg whites will keep the meringue from "weeping;" that is allowing the dissolved sugar to seep out and form "tears" on the surface of the baked meringue. Then be sure to spread the unbaked meringue right up against the edges of the pie crust so that they bake together in the oven. It keeps the meringue from pulling away from the edges when it tries to shrink.
